Revisiting ‘That Time I Almost Died’

Hello Lovelies!

This post is a bit more serious. I will be discussing a time in my life that I have shared before, that time I almost died, which you can reference by clicking the hyperlink.

I struggled with an eating disorder for 5 years of my life. This months I celebrate 8 years free from this illness and in love with myself. More on my thoughts below.

This week is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. This year’s theme is titled, “Come As You Are,” and the National Eating Disorders Association aims to include all members of this community, teaching people of all stages of recovery and body acceptance that their stories are valid. This is a time of openness for all who are struggling or who have struggled, and I hope this post encourages you to feel valid, to love yourself the way you are, and to share your story.

While I am happy to see the growing knowledge of these diseases, the current statistics are daunting: 30 million Americans suffer from eating disorders during their lifetimes, hospitalizations of sufferers under the age of 12 have increased by 119%, worst of all, the fatality rate of these diseases is roughly 20%. However, there is hope. Recovery is 100% possible. If you or someone you know struggles with any form of ED, please contact the National Eating Disorder Hotline at 1-800-931-2237 or visit nationaleatingdisorders.org.
