Hello Lovelies!
Happy Earth Day!! I am continuing this new sustainable series with a fun general list of things I have learned (and now love) to do that can contribute some good for our enviornment! I am still very new to the more sustainable lifestyle, as I learn new things I like to start small so here are some easy changes you can make in your life!
1. Minimal Living
From college to the city I have loved the under 500 square feet life. I know it sounds a little crazy but living small has helped me organize what is really important to have around. I am no longer a fan of things like backup sheets, bookshelves, tvs, and large vacuums to name a few. Even for my closet I love to stick to what I actually wear and donate or recycle anything else! If clutter is affecting your life, maybe deciding what is important and what is not can help you not only clean up but reduce the space you take up.
2. Recycled Clothing
I have talked before about closet clean-outs and shopping second hand, but one thing that has really helped me is altering clothes that no longer work for me! For denim that has gotten too big I get the waist taken in so I can still enjoy them, and with dresses that I have grown tired of I will use the fabric to make something else I like! You can also recycle clothes that cannot be donated so they can be reused for new clothes or even face masks!
3. Package Free Shopping
There are so many everyday items you can now find package-free, like toothpaste, soaps, laundry pods, food, and they’re probably not that far from you! Bring your own bag or container and find your favorite local place to pick up! And if you have to order, be sure to recycle the cardboard!
4. Walk Or Use Public Transportation
This isn’t for everyone but part of why I love city living is the ability to walk anywhere! Maybe you still need to commute to work but if you can walk or bike ride for coffee in the morning you can not only reduce your gas usage but you can also get a little workout in!
5. Volunteer!
There are always opportunities to clean up your community – from the city to parks and beaches, find out what efforts are currently being made to reduce pollution and see where you can lend a hand! Below I have some recourses for those local to Cincinnati if you want to get out and Volunteer!
